LLC tax preparation for growing San Diego County companies
An LLC is a legal structure, not a tax classification. Depending on how many members it has and what elections it has made, an LLC may be taxed as a sole proprietorship, a partnership, an S corporation or a C corporation. That choice decides which tax returns you file, how owners are paid and how much self-employment tax you owe.
Scalesight prepares LLC tax returns for every classification and checks each year whether the current one still fits the business. California adds its own LLC return and fees on top of federal filings, and we handle both.
What LLC tax preparation covers
- Single-member LLCs reported on Schedule C or Schedule E
- Multi-member LLCs filing federal Form 1065 with partner K-1s
- LLCs taxed as S corporations filing Form 1120-S
- California Form 568 for every LLC doing business in the state
- The $800 annual LLC tax and the gross-receipts-based LLC fee
- Classification reviews and S corporation election analysis
- Biennial Statement of Information reminders
- Multi-state filings for LLCs operating outside California
LLC owners we work with
- Owners who formed an LLC and are not sure how it is taxed
- Single-member LLCs that have grown into real operating companies
- Multi-member LLCs with two or more active owners
- LLCs weighing an S corporation election
California LLC taxes and fees
Every LLC organized in California or doing business here owes the $800 annual tax, whether it is a disregarded single-member LLC or a multi-member LLC taxed as a partnership. Once total California gross receipts reach $250,000, the LLC also owes an LLC fee that steps up at higher revenue levels. The fee is based on gross receipts, not profit, so it applies even in a loss year.
An LLC that elects S corporation treatment stops paying the LLC fee but pays California's 1.5 percent S corporation franchise tax instead, with an $800 minimum. Comparing those costs alongside payroll taxes is part of every election review we run.

LLC Tax Preparation questions
Does a single-member LLC need to file a California return?
Yes. Even though a single-member LLC is usually disregarded for federal income tax, it files California Form 568 and pays the $800 annual tax every year it is registered or doing business in California.
What is the California LLC fee?
On top of the $800 annual tax, LLCs with California gross receipts of $250,000 or more owe an LLC fee that increases with revenue. Because it is based on gross receipts rather than profit, it can apply even when the LLC loses money.
Can my LLC be taxed as an S corporation?
Yes. An eligible LLC can elect S corporation treatment by filing the proper election with the IRS. It then files Form 1120-S and pays owners through payroll. We model the savings against the added payroll and filing costs before you elect.
What if I never filed returns for my LLC?
California can assess the annual tax, fees and penalties for each unfiled year, and the LLC can be suspended. We help bring returns current and talk with you about penalty relief options.
