Business tax preparation for growing San Diego County companies
Business tax preparation should be the last step of a year of good decisions, not a scramble in March. Scalesight prepares federal and California business tax returns for corporations, S corporations, partnerships and LLCs, and we start by making sure the books behind the return are complete and reconciled.
Because we also handle tax planning and fractional CFO work, your business tax filing is not prepared in isolation. Entity choice, owner compensation, depreciation elections and state apportionment are reviewed every year, so the return reflects the strategy instead of just reporting history.
Business tax returns we prepare
- C corporation returns: federal Form 1120 and California Form 100
- S corporation returns: federal Form 1120-S, California Form 100S and shareholder Schedule K-1s
- Partnership and multi-member LLC returns: federal Form 1065, California Form 565 or Form 568 and partner K-1s
- Single-member LLC filings, including California Form 568 and the annual LLC tax
- Multi-state returns and apportionment when you sell or have employees outside California
- Extensions, estimated tax calculations and year-end tax projections
- Information returns such as Forms 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC
- Responses to IRS and Franchise Tax Board notices on returns we prepare
Who our business tax preparation fits

California rules that shape your business tax return
Every business entity that is organized or doing business in California files with the Franchise Tax Board in addition to the IRS. S corporations pay California franchise tax of 1.5 percent of net income with an $800 minimum. LLCs pay the $800 annual tax and, once California gross receipts reach $250,000, an additional LLC fee that rises with revenue. C corporations pay California corporate franchise tax on top of federal income tax.
California also departs from federal law in ways that change the numbers. It does not conform to federal bonus depreciation, limits Section 179 expensing to $25,000, and has its own rules for net operating losses and credits. We prepare both returns together and keep separate federal and California depreciation schedules so nothing is missed.

Business Tax Preparation questions
When are business tax returns due?
For calendar-year businesses, partnership returns (Form 1065) and S corporation returns (Form 1120-S) are due March 15, and C corporation returns (Form 1120) are due April 15. Fiscal-year entities follow the same pattern relative to their year end. California deadlines generally track the federal dates.
Does an extension give me more time to pay?
No. An extension gives you more time to file the return, not to pay the tax. Any balance due should be estimated and paid by the original deadline to avoid penalties and interest, which is why we run a projection before filing an extension.
What documents does a CPA need for business taxes?
Typically your year-end financial statements or accounting file, bank and credit card statements, loan statements, payroll reports, fixed asset purchases and sales, prior-year returns, ownership changes and any IRS or FTB letters. We send a checklist tailored to your entity type.
Can you take over if our books or prior returns are behind?
Yes. We regularly start with catch-up bookkeeping and then prepare current and prior-year returns. If returns are unfiled, we prioritize the years with the most exposure and talk with you about penalty relief options.
Do you also prepare the owners' personal returns?
Yes. Many owners prefer one CPA team for business and personal tax preparation because K-1 income, estimated payments and state taxes all connect. Personal returns for business owners are available as a supporting service.
